During the Ephesus Full day tour you will see all the ruins in the ancient city of Ephesus,Temple of Diana,Saint John''''s Basilica, Ephesus Archeology Museum and the house of Virgin Mary. Ephesus was once the most important commercial center of the western Anatolia. The city was a port on the edge of the river Cayster. The ruins are basically a theatre,a library and a gymnasium. It used to be a trade center of the ancient world then a religious center of early Christianity and now it’s a unique tourism center. In Ephesus any works of art that were dug up between 1867-1905 were sent over to the British Museum and those from 1905-1923 were taken to Vienna. When the Turkish Republic forbid taking the antiques out of the country they created their own museum in Selcuk near Ephesus. This museum is different to others as the rooms inside each have a theme, such as,the house findings room or the hall of the fountain relics. It’s said that Virgin Mary accompanied by St.John the Evangelist came to Ephesus when the end of her life was near. The House of Virgin Mary which is located on top of Bulbul mountain in a Roman architectural style was enlarged with a church in the 4th century and restored in 1940.There are only 2 rooms that tourists are allowed to look in.The place has been declared by Pope John-Paul II a pilgrimage place for Christians, but also Muslims can visit it.
