Just outside of Marmaris is Içmeler, it is located in a sheltered cove at the bottom of the mountains. It is very popular for it’s market but also as it is classed as the old town so plenty of things to look at and explore. You will see a villiage called Turunç which is a popular place for yachts. Visitors are offered handcrafted products such as honey, garden thyme, and sage tea. The long and winding road southwest to Selimiye is well worth the effort. Straight away from entering the castle you can see the beautiful gardens and feel the relaxing, cool atmosphere. Here they have several areas of archaeological displays, both in the garden and in the display rooms that surround the area. It has the rooms of the Garrison Commander, Ottoman Costumes and Footwear. From the castle you can see beautiful views of the harbour area and Marmaris Old Town. The castle is open every day except Monday, between 08:00 and 12:00 then it closes for lunch and re-opens at 13:00 to 18:00. The admission fee is 3 Turkish Lira.
