Sumela, which is an Orthodox Greek monastery sat on a steep hill surrounded by a forrest, dates back to the 4th century.A table that resembled the old city of Trabzon which was Trapezus in the Greek language,the oldest name of Trabzon.To reach the table we have to pass over 2 bridges and go between 2 little valleys. We will now go to Fatih Mosque.This is where the coronation of Greek Komnenos kings took place and had been the central church before Turkish conquest.Just outside the walls of the city centre is the Hagia Sophia Museum, the last St.Sophia having late Byzantinian architecture. Then we go uptown to see Ataturk Villa,getting its name after hosting Ataturk throughout his stays in Trabzon kindly offered by a Greek banker.We then look at the stunning view over Trabzon from the hilltop.For lunch we will drive about 10km to a small town called Akcaabat, which is famous all around Turkey for its meatballs.
