Despite purchasing our tickets for Turkey ten months prior to departure, pressure of work unfortunately meant we left organizing our trip very late. Upon a recommendation of an acquaintance at Monash University in Australia, who highly praised Tours Turkey based in Istanbul and Cappadocia, we contacted them.
After much correspondence via email we settled on an itinerary we felt comfortable with, much of it based on the expert advice of Tujan at Tours Turkey. She choose a variety of key and less frequently explored sites both archaeological (our main interests) and natural. She arranged hotels, bus travel and tickets, someone to meet and return us to bus stations and hotels, private drivers, small intimate quality tours and many extras which we appreciated. We did, however, make some suggestions for hotel upgrades based upon reviews in trip advisor and booking.com which was organised for us. A couple of luxurious establishments in beautiful surrounds refreshed us on our travels.
We relied upon Tujan's experience as a tour guide and were thrilled with her and Tours Turkey staff''s detailed and meticulous planning. During our five weeks , we spoke with numerous travellers and were so pleased and relieved that everything proceeded exceptionally smoothly.
Amongst the many highlights arranged for us was a balloon ride over Goreme in Cappadocia, small group tours of Cappadocia, a three day trip to Mt Nemrut and Sanliurfa, the ruins of Hierapolis and the Pamukkale Terraces, Ephesus, Pergamum, Trios, Aspendos, Perge, Saklikent Gorge and some unusual sites suggested such as Karian Caves, Termessos, Telmessos, Xanthos, Kayakoy Ghost City, Antalya old town and places around Fethiyre.
Perhaps we should mention that arrivals at bus stations can be stressful if no one is there to meet you but the bus sometimes arrives early, or at Istanbul, two hours late. We found the bus companies great as they would ring the hotel or arrange a free shuttle. In fact strangers offered to do the same thing in many places. Bus travel is an ideal and cheap way to see Turkey if you accept that things don't often go to plan.
We plan to return to Turkey with our grandchildren in a few years and will ask Tujan to arrange a tour perhaps with a private driver and van. We covered a lot of territory during our time but there is so much to see. The Turkish people are amongst the warmest we have encountered in our visits to 30+ countries.
If you are thinking of planning a trip or take tours for any length of time, please seriously consider Tours Turkey. We can assure you that you will be thankful for their expert advice, careful organisation and wonderful warm and friendly service.
